A city-building sandbox.
Your city, your decisions.

MapCity is a creative sandbox for drawing cities directly onto a map. Lay out streets, place buildings, and reshape neighborhoods at your own pace. The focus is designing a place and making it your own.

Design the place you want to see

A city can start with a single road. Draw a main street, branch into smaller streets, and decide where the blocks belong. Buildings, land, water, and boundaries are editable objects, so you can keep changing the composition as the city takes shape.

Try a compact village around a junction, a regular downtown grid, or a neighborhood that follows a curved shoreline. You choose the layout instead of working toward a prescribed city size or a fixed sequence of upgrades.

Draw with intention

Use snapping, curves, angle controls, and grids to lay out roads. Place and reshape buildings by hand where the small details matter.

Build out a neighborhood

Use development tools to preview roads, parcels, and buildings across an area or along streets. Commit a layout, then continue editing its objects.

Keep revising

Move, reshape, duplicate, or remove objects. Change one block without starting the whole city again, or extend your idea into a wider region.

Move between a street and a region

Pan and zoom to inspect a building, check how streets connect, or look at a town in its surrounding landscape. Working at different scales helps you see where a new neighborhood fits.

Very large or detailed maps can be demanding. Start with a manageable area and expand it as your design develops.

If your interest is the map itself, explore MapCity's city map maker and drawing workflow.

A creative editor with a sandbox focus

MapCity's current experience centers on drawing and editing. It does not simulate a living city economy or moving traffic. If arranging streets, shaping neighborhoods, and building a place is the part of city games you enjoy, that is the experience this sandbox is built around.

The screenshots on this page show the 2D editor. Experimental features are separate from that core experience.

FAQ

Can I build a city from a blank map?

Yes. Start with an empty project and draw roads, buildings, land, water, and boundaries. You can design a small town or keep extending it into a larger city.

Do I have to place every building myself?

No. You can work by hand or use development tools to generate editable layouts. Preview the result, commit it, and reshape the generated roads, parcels, and buildings.

When can I play MapCity?

MapCity is coming soon to Steam for Windows. Mac support is planned for the near future. It runs on your computer, rather than in your browser. See Steam for current release information and system requirements.
